Desiccant for filament: plan for replacement
Choose desiccant with clear quantity, indicator and regeneration instructions.
Use desiccant to help maintain dry storage, and follow the packet or container manufacturer's instructions. It is not a substitute for a required filament-drying cycle.
Check before buying
Look for a product that states what it is, whether it is reusable and how to recognise when it needs attention. Indicator colours vary by product, so keep the label rather than memorising a colour rule from another brand.
For quantity, use the supplier's stated guidance for your enclosure. We don't publish an invented grams-per-litre recommendation: capacity depends on the desiccant and the conditions in which you use it.
Keep it contained
Put packets or a suitable holder where they cannot foul a rotating spool, escape through a feed port or spill into the printer. Inspect damaged packets before returning them to the box.
Write down when you replace or regenerate the desiccant. If it needs attention unusually often, check the box seal and how frequently the lid is opened before simply adding more.
Regenerate only as instructed
Some products are disposable; others require a specific temperature, time and container. Don't heat an unidentified packet or assume its wrapping is heat-safe. Use dedicated equipment and trays, and keep the process separate from food preparation.
A universal regeneration temperature is deliberately absent here. Use the actual desiccant maker's instructions and replace the product if those instructions cannot be found.
Afterwards, return it to sealed storage and monitor the box rather than relying on the amount of desiccant alone.
