Printing while drying: check the supported feed path

Drying capability, dry storage and automatic feeding are separate compatibility checks.

Print from a dryer only when its manual supports it with your filament and printer arrangement. A hole in the enclosure does not establish compatibility by itself.

Check the route before a long job

Place the dryer as its maker directs, with ventilation clear. Route the filament through the intended outlet and tube. Check that the reel turns freely and that the filament doesn't rub a sharp edge or pull at an awkward angle.

Watch a short job with the complete arrangement before leaving it to run through a large spool. Follow the maker's supervision and operating requirements throughout.

Don't confuse drying and holding settings

A temperature intended for a timed drying cycle is not automatically the right continuous setting during a print. Use the supported operating instructions for that mode, and don't improvise a holding temperature from another product's advice.

Check automatic systems separately

An automatic material unit may have limits on flexible, abrasive or otherwise unsupported filaments. Its ability to store or heat a spool doesn't override those limits. Read both the material and system compatibility guidance.

Prusa notes that some filament dryers support printing directly from the enclosure. It also advises checking the unit against the filament's drying requirements. Source: Prusa, checked 25 October 2026.

When a job finishes, return the spool to protected storage and close any unused ports.
